Whitmore offers a very successful and rigorous homeschool program for those families seeking more input, direction, and autonomy with their student's academic endeavors. For more information, please click here (coming soon).
After School Program
Our after school program runs every day after school from 2:45-4:00. We offer the following:
- additional tutoring
- academic support
- snack recess
- various enrichment activities.
Music and Art
Whitmore continues a long and successful relationship with Nick Ciampi, one of Redding's local musicians. Nick teaches our young students the love and passion of music and instruments in an environment that welcomes kids to learn at their own pace and choose which instrument they are most interested in. Nick is on campus Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
- K-3 = 8:30-9:15
- 4-8 = 9:15-10:00
Our Social Studies and Science teacher, Mrs. Wentz loves art and brings that to our school as well. She teaches art once a week to all of our students, focusing on holidays, special occasions and/or events, as well as student interests. Student art displays are always located in our main hallway to showcase the fantastic work that the students produce.
Early Release Day Activity
Whitmore continues to offer Early Release on Wednesdays. Most of our students enjoy Religious Release Time at Grace Community with Pastor John Rodrigues and volunteers. If students or parents prefer an alternate activity, the teachers help with setting up various enrichment programs such as STEM projects.
Social Emotional Learning
At Whitmore we strive at building up the character, resiliency, and social-emotional well-being for all our students. We use Studies Weekly: Health and Wellness curriculum that has daily lessons revolving around social skills, responsibility, anti-bullying, drug awareness, and important youth topics that are grade appropriate just to name a few. If you would like to view the curriculum, please contact the office to set up an appointment to meet with our superintendent.
Educational Technology
All of our students are assigned an individual Chromebook throughout the school year that they use in all classes. In addition, each of our classrooms have some of the latest editions of smart tvs that allow for our teachers and students to access digitial curriculum and programs. Each of our core curriculum has a full digital component that our teachers use and embed within Google Classroom. All of our supplemental curriculum is application based and students access through their assigned Chromebooks, such as Renaissance Place, Freckle, U-Fly, and Read Live.
English Learners
Whitmore utilizes the support systems offered through CAASPP and the Shasta County of Education, as well as the English Language Development components with the Wonders and StudySync curriculums for all of our English Second Language Students. Our goal is to give them individualized and specific instruction in order to help them succeed.
Gardening
One of Whitmore's niche's is the on-going and year-round garden and little farm. We have a large garden with several planter boxes, as well as a hydroponix system located in the cafeteria. Our students help grow squash, tomoatoes, pumpkins, lettuce, kale, and other vegetables throughout the school year. They also have several areas for growing beautiful flowers, such as gardenias and tulips. In addition, every year the students incubate and hatch several chickens and take care of them through the school year. Every few months, our students are involved with the local farmer's market where some of the items from the garden are sold. Moreover, as part of our after school program, students work throughout each week in the garden helping to maintain it. Our teachers incoroporate various projects and lessons that relate to topics they are focusing on in class, such as agriculture, vocabulary, and mathematics.
